Each drive gear is visually inspected and wire-brushed. The wear pattern is inspected for smooth surfaces. It serious cupping or uneven wear is evident, I replace gear with a better core gear.
The surfaces must mesh smoothly with crankshaft drive gear inorder for distributor to rotate smoothly and provide satisfactory engine performance.
