Begun December 3, 2002 and 'completed' March, 2007.
...A special feature is the use of a beautiful quilted maple veneer that I formed over the back and rib traditional maple wood. The gluing process produced an unexpected but interesting appearance. The most beautiful woods are often made into veneers so this violin was and experiment to see if these most attractive veneers could be used in violin making
...The back wood (under the 0.025" thick veneer layer) is traditional French maple, slab cut.
...Top plate is European silver spruce with grain set on a slight angle to enhance sound transmission. All parts of this violin are carefully acoustically adjusted for an excellent tone, which is rich and mellow, price is $2,500 for this unique violin.
...This is the quilted maple veneer which I am preparing to bond to a traditional carved maple back plate (before graduating thickness of plate).
...Traditional spruce top plate with angled top grain. 1714 Stradivarius shape, arching and 'f' hole patterns.
... Finished back . The wood pattern really comes alivce in the bright sunlight.
