. This is a fine product (I think I have done 25 kits so far). . This kit uses the GM HEI ignition module which I supply mounted on an aluminum heat sink to mount off to the side of the engine. This ignition module is considered higher tech than Pertronix Ignitor and probably more reliable with a hotter spark. . Ray Sedman of Corvair Performance Parts and Services (http:/www.American-Pi.com) has these comments about the GM HEI controler: "....the G.M. ignition module is a much better unit than the Ignitor. Besides being more reliable, it is commonly available at ANY auto parts house if needed. This can not be stated for the Ignitor. It is also able to switch more current than the Ignitor, as well as it has some dwell control which the ignitor does not have. This allows the G.M. module to supply the engine with about three times more available current at the plugs between 3000 and 5000 engine RPM. Engine speeds below and above this also have increased current output, but less than three times." . This is the ignition that powered many General Motors cars during much of the 1980's. It was considered an excellent and reliable electronic ingition. Later G.M. ignitions went on to use knock sensors and computer control. . The necessary wiring harness is included as well as a custom point plate which has the electronic pickup mounted. I also supply a custom mounted reluctor wheel which pushes down over the point cam. . I see this as a product better than the low end ignitons but not as good as the high end units such as the Safe-Guard unit (by Ray Sedman) or one of the integrated MSD type ingitions. . Please call if you have any questions... |
